The UEMS Executive, and the bureau of the UEMS Section of Surgery would like to express their sincere condolences to his family and to the Belgian national medication association, and the Belgian surgical society for this loss.
He contributed in many ways in the activities of the UEMS in the Council, within CESMA and in the Section of Surgery on post-graduate training and much more.
On top of recognising him as “a superb and versatile surgeon”, Mr Arthur Felice, current President of the UEMS European Board of Surgery remembers that Prof. Gruwez had “a convinced European and even global perspective of surgery. For so many years he was a supporting column for the Section of Surgery, a very active member of the UEMS Council and a convinced Medical Union man. Always transparent, he always inspired confidence and trust in colleagues, patients and friends.”
Prof. Daniel Casanova, President of the UEMS Section of Surgery Prof. Jacques Gruwez, said about him: “He was an admirable person who, in addition to imparting his surgical wisdom, was always an excellent mentor. We also remember his sense of humour and his hospitality during meetings in Belgium."
In recognition of his endeavours and achievements for decades in the UEMS Section of Surgery, he received the title of Honorary Fellow of the UEMS Section of Surgery.
The UEMS renews again its warmest thoughts and condolences to his family, and to the Belgian medical association for this loss.
